Z Club Prez Report

G’day to all Victorian Z wardians

It is my pleasure to write to all of you to express what a great year we have had.  It has been my privilege to work with such an organised and mature committee which is strong and decisive.  Simmo the secretary who is just tenacious in his approach, Red the Vice Prez who is always willing to contribute in any capacity, Bushy who is right on the ball when it comes to balancing the cheque books so to speak, Popeye for keeping up to date membership details, Gazza for assisting with the merchandise, Suss for her incessant ability to extract monies for the raffles and Broz for his assistance as a General member.  I would also like to thank Speed for his assistance and Roger who has come back to the club after a 14 year hiatus in assisting me with the pending 25th Silver Anniversary.  This committee are not afraid to make decisions and have the best interests of the club in mind always.

The year started off with a successful Maintenance Day at Brissell’s, well successful for some who did not have to either leave their bike there or limp home.  I can testify to that having just recently been a passenger in a tow truck on the May ride day due to some electrical issue.

In Feb this year, 16 of us headed for Tassie to ride and take in the sights and atmosphere of the famous Tasmanian scenery & hospitality (when it was available).  The ride went off well with only a few hiccups ranging from bike mechanical problems to (closed pubs due to the owner being sick – Have they not heard of staff) and no fuel because the petrol bowsers have been removed from the servo – (Then it’s not a servo then is it!).  But the Tasmanians just take it in their stride.  I asked one pseudo servo ‘where are the bowsers’ to which they replied ‘they’re gone’ – of course they have silly me, why else would it be a servo.

The accommodation was great and the food exceptional – most of the time.  The weather – well what can one say for less of a better term, perfect.  The real pleasure for me was travelling with such a pleasant group.  We had much laughter and absolutely no angst for the entire trip.  Accept for Leo’s bike deciding to burst a radiator day one.

I am glad to say that the Tassie Run is on again next year with 6 registrations already.  If you think you would like to try it, talk one of the participants from the last run (Popeye, Simmo, Red, Krazza, Speed, Brissell, Twiggy, No Jack, Broz or Mr Fabulous).

The three guys taking care of the Good Friday Ride (Gazza, Bushy and Krazza), did an exceptional job once again.  This year the weather and maybe the venue kept some people away, but the logistics were flawless.  The guys are taking steps to rekindle the flame of motorcycling passion into the run by moving it to another venue which I am sure will do well next year.

The Sunday rides have been doing well – (as long as you make it without being towed home).  Thanks to all those who have organised rides and venues.  This shows the committee what level of commitment we do have in our club.

As you are all aware, we do have the 25th Silver Anniversary Rally coming up in March next year which will be held at Lake Nillahcootie on the B300 before Benalla.  Roger and I inspected this site and it really does tick all the boxes.  There are at least 72 dorm style beds available, plenty of green lakeside camping with lighting, mess hall, industrial kitchen and fridge, a burnout pad and copious amount of parking.

There will be patches made and hopefully a special edition silver styled Z owners badge to mark the occasion.  The event comes with responsibilities so you very well may be tapped on the shoulder and asked to perform a task like sitting on the front gate for an hour or so, or serving at the bar for example.

I am sure we will have a great time on our 25th where it will be my honour to hand out 25 years of membership patches followed by 20, 15, 10 and 5 for those deserving.

It has been a real pleasure to be your president this year.  You should be happy to know that the club is in good hands with this current committee.  If you feel the need to contribute, the August Annual General Meeting is looming.

I will miss the AGM this year as I will be trundling around Europe as did Bushy only recently.  I hope my candidacy for the president’s role will be accepted in my absence and that I have earned your measure for the role.

Signing off
